What is an Air Source Heat Pump?

Before we tell you all about this amazing scheme, we should explain what an Air Source Heat Pump is and how it works.

This is a system that gives you a great way of alternatively heating your home. This tends to be placed outside at either the back or the side of your property. It works by taking heat from the air, and then using the heat pump to boost it to a higher temperature. Electricity is needed for the pump to run. However, it will use a lower amount of electrical energy than the heat that is produced, and this is why it makes sense from an environmental point-of-view.

How an Air Source Heat Pump works

The Air Source Heat Pump will take air in from the outside to heat a liquid refrigerant.

The pump will then use electricity to compress the liquid so that the temperature increases. This will then condense back into a liquid to release the stored heat.

Heat is then sent to the underfloor heating or radiators, with the rest of it being stored in a hot water cylinder.

Finally, you can use the stored hot water for taps, baths, showers, and so on!

Simple and effective, an air source heat pump could be just the solution for the future heating of your home.

The Benefits of an Air Source Heat Pump

Aside from the fact that an Air Source Heat Pump will be eligible for the AOR scheme, there are other benefits to consider. Firstly, this is an incredibly energy-efficient way of heating your home! Less CO2 will be generated in comparison with conventional heating systems. This will also reduce your monthly energy bills considerably as well, which is something we could all benefit from.

Another benefit associated with having an Air Source Heat Pump installed is that they are easy to install. When compared with other eco-friendly systems, such as ground source heat pumps, an ASHP can be installed with greater speed and ease.

Sounds great… but how do you get this all for free?

What is the AOR scheme

Click to Apply in One Minute

The AOR scheme enables eligible applications to get a free Air Source Heat Pump, which could be worth as much as £15,000. This will enable you to reduce your carbon footprint while also saving money on your energy bills, meaning you will be feeling the impact of this free heating element for years and years to come.

But, what is this scheme and how does it work? The scheme was introduced back in 2018 by Ofgem. AOR stands for Assignment of Rights, and this scheme gives third-party investors the ability to fund the installation of Air Source Heat Pumps for homeowners in the United Kingdom by installers who are MCS certified. In return for this, investors will get the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI), which is a fixed-rate tariff that should be paid over seven years.

The aim of this program is to encourage private investment to accelerate installations of ASHP in properties across the United Kingdom. The aim of this is to tackle climate change and foster an environment that is carbon-free. This means you can play an important role in helping our planet while also saving some money in the process.
